Hine School Planned Unit Development

The Zoning Commission of the District of Columbia granted the Planned Unit Development (“PUD”) Application of Stanton-EastBanc, LLC, which was represented by GDL.  The PUD proposed razing the former Hine Junior High School building on Capitol Hill and replacing it with a 461,946 gross square feet mixed-use residential, office and retail project directly across from the Eastern Market Metro Station.  The project enjoyed widespread support; however, several neighbors of the Hine School site appealed the Zoning Commission’s decision to the District of Columbia Court of Appeals.  Mark Policy, Bill Casano and Kate Olson of GDL represented Stanton-EastBanc, LLC on the appeal, and Mark Policy of GDL argued the case to the Court of Appeals.  The Court of Appeals subsequently issued a decision affirming the Zoning Commission decision in all respects, and the neighbor’s request for a hearing by the full Court was subsequently denied.  The project is proceeding.
