UPDATE: DC CLARIFIES APPLICABILITY OF 60-DAY NOTICE OF RENT INCREASE REQUIREMENT IN ENACTING THE FAIRNESS IN RENTING CLARIFICATION EMERGENCY AMENDMENT ACT OF 2023

On January 10, 2024, Mayor Bowser signed the Fairness in Renting Notice Clarification Emergency Amendment Act of 2023 (A25-0355) thereby clarifying that the new 60-notice requirement for rent increases only applies to those notices of rent increase issued after January 1, 2024.  Any notice of rent increase issued prior to January 1, 2024, and which provides 30 days’ prior notice of the rent increase remains valid.  You can review the text of the Fairness in Renting Notice Clarification Emergency Amendment Act of 2023.
