Biography: Born in Easton, Pennsylvania, Mr. DePuy attended Harvard University and graduated from American University in 1965. He received a Master of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1967 and his law degree from Georgetown University in 1974. Mr. DePuy was admitted to the Bar of the District of Columbia in 1975. Mr. DePuy is CoAuthor of the article "Bringing Democracy to the Nation's Last Colony: The District of Columbia SelfGovernment and Governmental Reorganization Act," The American University Law Review, Vol. 24, Spring, 1975. He was also the Author of an article "The District of Columbia Land Use Maze," that was published in The Realtor, 1976. Mr. DePuy was an Instructor with the Graduate Realtor Institute from 1991 to 1994.
Mr. DePuy was Legislative Assistant to the Honorable Brock Adams, U.S. House of Representatives from 1969 to 1973. He was Subcommittee Counsel of the District of Columbia Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1973 to 1974. He was Legislative Assistant to the Honorable Abner Mikva of the U.S. House of Representatives in 1975. Mr. DePuy is a Member of the Bar Association of the District of Columbia, in which he was Cochair of the Real Property Law Committee from 1995 to 1997. He is a member of the Apartment and Office Building Association of Metropolitan Washington, the District of Columbia Building Industry Association and of a number of other trade and business organizations whose focus is real estate development.
Mr. DePuy has extensive experience in land use, real property assessment appeals and commercial real estate. His land use and assessment appeal practice involves representation of clients in proceedings before numerous District of Columbia agencies, including the Zoning Commission, Board of Zoning Adjustment, D.C. Council, Board of Real Property Assessments and Appeals, Historic Preservation Review Board and the Mayor’s Agent for Historic Preservation. In addition to land use and assessment appeal work, Mr. DePuy’s practice includes the drafting and negotiation of real property acquisition and sale agreements, construction loan documentation, easements, zoning development rights transfers and declarations of covenants. |
